BESPOKE TUITION SERVICE AIMED AT LAWYERS WHO USE ENGLISH IN THEIR WORK
INTRODUCTION
I studied law at University and qualified as a Solicitor 30 years ago. I was a commercial lawyer with Clifford Chance for over 20 years, mainly in London but also in Amsterdam, Luxembourg and Tokyo.
Since 2004, I’ve had my own training business, this one – ENGLISH4LAWYERS.
I mainly help lawyers and others who work a lot in English but who aren’t native speakers. Most of them are already very good at English. I polish their use of the language, help them remove their (usually) few errors and give them new skills. I also do some work with junior native speaker lawyers.
The course participants (CPs) provide the materials with which we work. This ensures that what we do is relevant. I did the same job as them for over twenty years and I know about the law, their work and being a lawyer and about the language they should be using. This is a huge advantage for me as a trainer and also for the CPs.
A few examples.
1. Working outside London with between 4 and 8 lawyers for anything from a few days to a few weeks. Most of the sessions will be one to one but we might also have a few group sessions.
2. Working with people seconded to London (where I live) and those based here permanently.Usually one to one. I’ve also done one to one teaching using SKYPE.
3. Working on a particular skill (such as presentations) with a senior lawyer such as a partner or a partner candidate who has to make an important presentation.
4. A writing and drafting skills course to groups of about ten. (Suitable for both native and non-native speakers.)
5. “An introduction to the language of the law” – a course of ten or so lectures introducing non-native speakers to the language of the law or in some cases reminding them of it.
PLUS…. many other things. Have a look at this website, in particular WHAT I DO and WHO I AM. Then get in touch and I’ll give you some more ideas and a proposal.
In addition, a lot of the SAMPLES will give you a good idea of how I work and what I can do. However, the SAMPLES section only contains a small number of my samples.
If you want samples which are aimed at speakers of your native tongue, ask me and if I have anything, I’ll be happy to send it to you. (I have things aimed at speakers of the native tongues of most of the lawyers I’ve worked with.)
